As the new South Africa has more than one name,
so the Bavarian Springbok Club has many names:
  • Ubuntu Club
  • Munich South Africans
  • Braaiers
  • Zebras
To mention but a few.

Though the name is complex, the goal is simple:

All South Africans or those with a love for South Africa should

get together
have fun,
learn about each other, their professions and also
help others.

The Club was founded in 1992 and currently has about 100  member addresses.
Most live in Munich, but some are from Ulm, Frankfurt, Regensburg, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden etc.
Members come in all colours, shapes and sizes with quite a few families with small children.
Meetings which can take any form are approximately every 6 weeks.

There are also a number of experts, for example:

Audio is Marita Knobel,

  Visual is Constanze Wagner,
  Bacchus is Reinhard Böhmer,
  Sports is Patricia Vollmerich etc.

but everyone does their thing.

In other words, a member has an idea and it happens. Examples: a member suggests a

  • walk,
  • bike-ride,
  • skiing,
  • soft ball game,
  • sight-seeing trip to a historical town,
  • a Cape Malay buffet,
  • visit to the opera
  • other cultural events
    and many more

Two exceptions:

  • the Annual Braai
  • the Curry Evening
These happen no matter what!
